Individual & Group EmploymentFinding and keeping a job that's right for youAbout this ProgramThe goal of the Supported Employment Individual (SEI) Program is to achieve independence and success through competitive employment in the community. Based on vocational assessments, professional supports will be provided to people with developmental disabilities who have the potential and skills to work independently, but may require some periodic assistance on the job. Hopefully, once an individual placement is made in the community, job supports can fade over time. In some cases though, the needs of the individual may require intensive supports that can remain in place for an indefinite period. Each program participant is assigned an Employment Specialist (ES) who is responsible for evaluating the interests, skills, abilities and preferences of the person served. The ES facilitates job development, job coaching supports and transportation when necessary. The intension of the SEI Program is to assist the individual in securing their own job where they can be paid and supervised directly by the employer. It is hoped that through this arrangement, the individual will have increased opportunities to establish their own network of professional and social relationships. The people served in SEI are part of the community at large as well as the Marrakech family, which includes team members, family and friends, and other significant people in their life. "People in SEI are also encouraged to participate in the program's peripheral activities such as the job club, social club, monthly television talk show program and WYBC-AM weekly radio show." The SEI Program recognizes that having a job is an important component in life that promotes positive self-esteem, confidence and personal growth. At the very least, having a job also helps pay the bills and gives each person the choices, dignity and respect that comes with self-sufficiency.
