Overnight Summer Camp Experience

Camp Stride: For Children with Autism

It is with excitement that we offer a short camping season of Camp Stride, an overnight camp specifically designed for children with Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Camp Stride is a collaborative project of the Connecticut Center for Child Development (an approved special education program), Marrakech, Inc. (a human service provider specializing in disability services) and Camp Laurelwood (an accredited camp program.) Together, we pool our resources to provide two short overnight camping sessions. CCCD provides training of camp personnel to equip them to carry out behavior management plans, adapt activities to your child’s learning style and to promote a positive camping experience. Marrakech, Inc. provides nursing and specialized personnel to complement the Camp Laurelwood team.

Camp Laurelwood is located in Madison, Connecticut on 140 acres of nature and recreation facilities. There are two beautiful pools complete with lifeguards, tennis courts, recreation cabin, mess hall, and any other facilities you would expect from a sleepover camp. Services are comprehensive and include a wide range of fun outdoor and indoor activities, 24 hour staffing, onsite nurse, meals and snacks, medication management, and much more!

As you may expect, the cost to provide this level of service is quite high, ($1,900 per session per child.) On your behalf, Marrakech appeals to several foundations and corporations for "camperships". We are optimistic that through them we will be able to defray a good portion of the cost to operate the camp. We ask that parents contribute what they personally can. We also ask that parents request assistance through any "campership" programs about which families may be familiar – through civic groups, employers, foundations, funds, cities and towns. We do not base our admissions decisions on a family’s ability to pay so please make your application regardless of your financial situation.
