Companion Living
Companions promote positive relationships that foster growth and independence in a community setting.
Where do you live and what do you do?
- Live in an apartment rented by the consumer.
- Could also share your home or apartment with a consumer.
- Help get them involved in the neighborhood and participate in the life of both their natural family and yours.
- Assist the person to master important living skills and work towards their individual goals.
- Play an active role in the individual's team and the collaborative development of the support plan.
Who is a Companion?
- Anyone ready to make a difference in someone’s life and open his/her heart and home to an individual with a disability.
- Anyone willing to be a mentor and role model.
- Anyone with the desire to help a person with a disability learn to be more independent and prosper in a family home setting.
Matching Process
- Looking at similar interests and backgrounds.
- Compatible matches between the companion and the consumer.
Companion Process
- Training in a variety of health and safety areas.
- Proof of good health.
- Three personal references.
- Local and State Police background check.
- Interview with prospective consumer.
- Development of a mutually agreed upon contract.
- Signing on as an independent contractor to provide specific supports.
- Moving in
How Am I Compensated?
- As a contractor, a monthly tax free stipend for the support you provide will be paid to you by Marrakech, Inc.
- Free rent or receive rental compensation.
- Respite Budget- Reimbursement for care to the individual based on their level of need.
- Free training
- 24/7 on call support
