A NIGHT AT THE RODEO
Marrakech’s Annual Ball returned on July 16 at the beautiful Anthony’s Ocean View, where guests gathered for an evening of great food, lively entertainment, and good company. With a fun rodeo theme setting the tone, the evening featured delicious fare from appetizers to delectable desserts, a photo booth for capturing the fun, and a DJ who kept the music—and the energy—going all night. Most of all, the Ball offered a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends and enjoy an evening together in a beautiful waterfront setting. It was a memorable night filled with laughter, dancing, and smiles galore!

Team Marrakech Express was up for the challenge at the 2026 Gaylord Gauntlet! Jane and Gabe from our Quality of Life Services joined Fitness Coach Deval, and Patrick on June 13 for the 5K obstacle course race at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare. Featuring more than 20 natural and man-made obstacles, the race challenged participants to put their strength, determination, and teamwork to the test. From rock climbing and a zip line to a slippery waterslide and even a fire pit, our crew conquered all 25 obstacles, sharing plenty of laughs along the way. They crossed the finish line with muddy shoes, great memories, and a well-earned sense of accomplishment. All proceeds from the event support the Gaylord Sports Association and its adaptive sports programs. | On September 10, Marrakech hosted its 2026 Health & Wellness Fair at the Dixwell Community “Q” House in New Haven, bringing together employees, individuals we support, community members, and an incredible group of vendors and volunteers. From health and fitness resources to wellness information and activities, the Fair offered something for everyone. A heartfelt thank you to all who shared their time, expertise, and enthusiasm to make the event a wonderful success. We’re grateful for this community of people who help make wellness matter! | Thirteen Marrakech individuals experienced the joy and exhilaration of riding a bike, thanks to the incredible generosity of Save the Kid Fund, Inc. and their exclusive bicycle program, Robbie’s Riders. Dedicated to enhancing mobility and quality of life for children and individuals with disabilities, these remarkable organizations brought specially fitted bikes, trikes, and helmets to our Island Lane Day Program on Saturday, July 18. For some recipients, it was their very first ride—a milestone filled with excitement, newfound confidence, and ear-to-ear smiles. Our heartfelt thanks go to Save the Kid Fund and Robbie’s Riders for making this experience possible. More than just a bike, each gift represents new opportunities for mobility, independence, and joyful moments to come. Their generosity brought smiles to so many faces, and for that, we are truly grateful!
East Street Arts, Marrakech’s social enterprise where talented artisans create and sell a unique array of handcrafted products, recently welcomed two special groups of visitors. Ariel Vega, Jr. (top photo center), State Economic Development Director for Senator Christopher Murphy, visited the studio to learn more about East Street Arts and the creative opportunities it provides. Franklyn Reynolds (bottom photo center), President & CEO of UIL Holdings Corporation, Michael Anderson (bottom photo far right), Government & Community Relations Specialist at Avangrid, and members of the UIL Communications Team also toured the studio and learned more about the work happening at East Street Arts. We appreciate the continued interest and support of our partners as we explore the many ways East Street Arts enriches lives and strengthens our community. | For the second year in a row, Marrakech brought employees together for a day of fun, food, music, and recognition at the fabulous Holiday Hill. Under beautiful skies, employees and guests enjoyed the expansive grounds and plenty of ways to play—from mini golf, basketball, bocce, and horseshoes to canoes, kayaks, swimming, and more. The day also provided an opportunity to recognize some truly deserving members of the Marrakech team, including Milestone Anniversary Award recipients marking 5–40 years of service, Direct Support Professional of the Year awardees, DSP Credentialed Employees, and Employee Engagement & Staff Special Recognition recipients. After lunch, the DJ got everyone moving, while others took a dip in the pool, shot some hoops, or headed out on the lake. Delicious food and scrumptious desserts kept everyone fueled for the fun! It was a day filled with laughter, connection, and heartfelt appreciation for the people who make Marrakech what it is. | Our Young Adult Services program welcomed the fall season with a fun-filled Fall Fest! The day brought everyone together to enjoy games, activities, and plenty of laughs, while Capetta’s Food Truck served up delicious pizza and ice cream. Of course, no celebration would be complete without a little friendly competition. The always-popular water balloon game was a highlight of the day, bringing plenty of smiles and a few good splashes! Fall Fest was a great opportunity to spend time together, have some fun, and celebrate the start of a new season. | | CELEBRATING OUR DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS | At Marrakech, Direct Support Professionals play an essential role in helping individuals pursue their goals, build independence, connect with their communities, and live meaningful lives. Their compassion, creativity, advocacy, and commitment are at the heart of the support we provide every day. This year, we are proud to recognize six outstanding team members as Direct Support Professionals of the Year and celebrate Marrakech employees who have advanced their professional development by earning credentials through the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP).
