Reading Is Fundamental

Denise Canady, Chief Compliance Officer, participated in the largest Read Across America event sponsored by United Way of Greater New Haven on March 7th. In a partnership with 13 schools across 6 towns in New Haven County, a team of 260 volunteers were recruited to pack and distribute books; a total of 834 books were donated to schools; and sent into the classrooms to read and ignite a passion for literacy in students. Volunteers were also culled from the faculty of Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale University, and students from New Haven Academy. Delighted to be a part of all facets of the initative, Denise was particularly thrilled to read to the 2nd graders at Troup School

Spring Has Sprung

And with it three exceptional student volunteers from Quinnipiac University to clean up and plant gardens at the Cortina group home as part of The Big Event, a day of community service by university students, faculty, staff and alumni. A huge shout out to Anthony, Sofia and Luka, who gave up their Saturday to the benefit of the residents who were thrilled by the transformation. Bruce played harmonica and Jenny directed garden plantings as the threesome made light of the challenging work. There might have even been some whistling. Thanks to this incredible team!

Lets Get Social

Laughter filled the room at Birchwood’s at Oaklane on Friday, January 26th when coworkers enjoyed one another’s company at the annual Marrakech Employee Social. Food and drink were just the beginning. Guests played games, hammed it up in the photo booth, danced, competed for prizes, and shared a darn good time.

Sign Of The Times

Marrakech has made a concerted effort to improve communication with the Deaf Community by taking steps to increase staff proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). This initiative included a course in ASL presented by the ASL Institute, LLC, as well as an interactive evening hosted by the Yale Linguistics Department, where attendees could practice their skills and learn more about Deaf Culture. Not only do these opportunities support the Winsted Group Home, where both staff and residents are either deaf or hard of hearing, but also our commitment to inclusivity in the community as a whole.

The future depends on what you do today.”

Mahatma Gandhi

Dear Friend,

Yesterday’s dream of independence and empowerment for people of all abilities has manifested in the multifaceted organization that Marrakech has become today. Your support today helps ensure a bright future for those in our community. A tomorrow built on a foundation of hope, love and inclusivity. We invite you to join our collective of visionaries with a donation that allows us to continue to realize dreams. Thank you in advance for your generosity and continued belief in the life affirming work we do in support of diverse peoples facing unique challenges.
